Are you retired or
studying? Could you spare one or two hours a
week? Chess in Schools and Communities are
looking for volunteers for schools and the

chess club in a library as well as helping tutors in schools
in term time and/or running after-school or lunchtime chess
Experience of working with young people
and knowledge of chess are an advantage, but the main
qualifications are enthusiasm for the game and the ability
to communicate this to children. You don't have to be a
chess expert or have previous experience. In schools you
will work alongside a CSC tutor. In a library you will have
a librarian to provide help and advice.
We will provide you with free training
and support. We will fund a Disclosure and Barring
Service (DBS) – formerly the CRB or Criminal Record
Bureau - check. Our coaching courses will equip you to
run a library or school club and help a tutor teach chess in
a classroom. We hold regular coaching courses in and
around the UK.
