ChessKid
ChessKid is an online chess learning and playing zone designed for ages 5-11. Children who have no prior knowledge of chess will be able to learn how to play the game. Children who already know how to play will be able to develop their skills and challenge their friends, while tracking their improvement. Basic accounts are free and offer unlimited games of chess and the beginner lessons. Gold accounts offer access to a huge library of resources: instructional videos, 1000s of puzzles and over 100 interactive lessons for beginners to experts.
ChessKid has been built with safeguarding in mind and has been successfully used by children in CSC’s Schools’ Programme for the past seven years. These safeguarding measures make it suitable for use by primary school aged children. For secondary school pupils, we recommend Lichess.
How do I sign up (schools)?
CSC will set up as many free basic ChessKid accounts as your school needs for you to allocate to your pupils. We will also give you a Gold teacher’s account which will allow you to monitor your pupil’s progress, reset passwords, etc. We simply need a contact at the school and the number of accounts you require. All schools that receive weekly tuition from a CSC tutor are given 5 free Gold accounts as part of their membership of our Schools’ Programme. Please contact your Regional Organiser for more details.
How do I sign up (parents)?
CSC has teamed up with ChessKid to offer a huge saving to UK parents wishing to buy or renew Gold memberships. Instead of the normal price of $49, a Gold membership bought through CSC costs £20 per year. If your child already has a ChessKid account, we will first need it moved into the CSC ChessKid group first. To do this, please log into your child’s account and follow the instructions in this document. If your child doesn’t have an account, you can create one in the CSC group here. Once you’ve completed these steps, please use this form to send us your details and pay for the upgrade to a Gold account. Please note: the upgrade is a manual process and so may take up to 24 hours to complete.
