Success for Berkshire pupils in EJCOA tournament
CSC sends congratulations to two pupils from its chess club at Goldsworth Primary School in Woking. Supported by their CSC tutor, Sam Roffey, the children recently took part in their first tournament, the English Junior Coaches and Organisers Association (ECJOA) National Youth Championships. The tournament is for players aged 9-17 and our pupils were among the youngest competitors there. Despite that, they finished in excellent positions, 13th and 16th out of 38 players, finishing at the top of their age category. Both players have qualified for the national finals which take place in Nottingham in June.
One of the parents paid tribute to the excellent work Sam had done preparing the children for the tournament: “Thank you so much for your coaching and support, and for giving A this wonderful opportunity to join the tournament. We are truly grateful for this valuable experience. He had a fantastic time today, and his passion for chess has grown even more. We feel incredibly lucky to have you as his coach!” We wish both players the best of luck in the finals..
