Secondary School Chess

If you are looking to develop chess activities at a secondary school, CSC can help. We already run after-school chess clubs in secondary schools across the country and have supported many more schools to establish their own provision. We can offer access to tournaments against other schools, both locally and nationally. We can also provide your pupils with accounts in our online club for secondary schools.

How can CSC help you run your own chess club at school?

If you are a member of school staff and want to set up and run your own chess club, CSC can provide the following completely free of charge to UK state schools:
• Equipment and resources. CSC will supply chess sets and boards for any school interested in establishing a regular club.
• Staff training. CSC holds regular training courses. These cover our curriculum, techniques for teaching chess, and ideas for running a school club. The course is designed for teachers and teaching assistants who want to run their own chess activities at their school.

How can CSC deliver a chess club at your school?

If you would like a CSC to run an after-school club, we have a nationwide network tutors to call upon. All our tutors have excellent subject knowledge and have been trained to deliver the CSC Curriculum in schools. All have enhanced DBS certificates and undergo regular safeguarding training.

CSC will provide all the equipment and learning resources required, and training for members of staff who want to support the chess activities. By joining our Schools’ Programme, you will be given priority booking to the Schools' Festival at the London Chess Classic held each December at Kensington Olympia, London. As part of this package, you may also wish to consider adding some chess enrichment classes during the school day.

CSC will also provide free Lichess accounts for your pupils, enabling them to play chess online, and take part in tournaments against other schools.
