National Schools Chess Championships: Online Qualifying Event

On Monday, 25th November, CSC was pleased to host an online qualifying event for the English Chess Federation’s National Schools Chess Championships. The event featured 14 schools competing in a team battle format and was hosted on the Lichess platform. A big thank you and congratulations to all the schools and players that participated in the event.

Each school could enter up to 10 players, with the top six individual scores contributing to their team’s total. This qualifier was open to both primary and secondary schools, accommodating players of all experience levels.

Congratulations to the top three schools from this qualifying round, which secured places in the regional knockouts in spring 2025:

  • Greenshaw High School

  • MEA Central

  • St Thomas the Apostle School and Sixth Form College

If they are successful next year, these schools will have the chance to progress to the national finals, scheduled to take place at Nottingham University on 25th–26th June 2025.

The National Schools Chess Championships, founded in 1957, is a long-standing team competition open to all schools in England and one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the country.

We wish all advancing teams the best of luck and look forward to hosting the event next year.
