Training Courses

CSC runs regular training courses to support people involved in school chess. No chess playing experience is required to attend. All our courses cover the following topics:

• CSC's bespoke 30-week schools' curriculum

• Using mini-games to introduce chess to children

• The educational and social benefits of chess

• Learning resources and online platforms

• Ideas for running chess clubs

There are two types of course:

Tutor training days are for prospective CSC tutors and any non-school staff interested in teaching chess to children. In addition to the material above, the course covers teaching techniques, classroom management, and lesson planning. These courses run from 10am to 4pm at various locations around the country and online.

Staff CPD sessions are exclusively for teachers and teaching assistants looking to support and run chess clubs within their schools. These sessions take place online and are held after school, between 4pm and 6pm. CSC can also deliver bespoke in-person training for schools and multi-academy trusts, either as after-school sessions or as part of an INSET day.

Free Invited Delegate tickets are available for staff from CSC schools and for prospective CSC tutors. Please contact us for a promotion code. NB: if you wish to work as a CSC tutor, we will require you to attend an full training day in-person (not online) if at all practicable.
