Schools Tournament at Kensington Town Hall
In collaboration with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council, CSC was delighted to run a chess tournament for the borough’s primary schools at Kensington Town Hall on Tuesday, 25th March. Featuring seven state primary schools from Kensington and Chelsea, the magnificent venue provided the perfect backdrop for a day filled with strategic play and friendly competition.
It soon became evident that chess is flourishing in the borough, with impressively strong play from many of the children, and with all the teams supported by enthusiastic teachers. But while they were skilled chess players already, for most it was their first chance to compete in a tournament environment. And they certainly took to it very well — relishing the calm, tense atmosphere in each round of play and showing great sportsmanship throughout.
Congratulations to St Joseph’s Primary School for securing first place and taking home the coveted trophy. The Oratory Primary School claimed a well-deserved second place, while Servite RC Primary School rounded out the top three.
Individual medals were particularly hard to come by in this tournament, with no easy victories, so a special mention goes to Marcus, the only player to achieve a perfect score of 5 out of 5.
The event was a resounding success, with all participants exhibiting good sportsmanship and a love for the game. We extend our gratitude to the schools, and RBKC Council for making this memorable event possible.
