Inaugural Boleyn Trust Tournament
On Tuesday 18th March CSC helped organise The Boleyn Trust’s inaugural inter-school chess tournament. Hosted by New City Primary School, Newham, seven schools competed in an exciting afternoon of chess.
Alison Sharp, our Chair of Trustees and former headteacher at Ravenscroft Primary—now part of the Boleyn Trust—spoke to the children about the work of CSC. She explained how it began at her school in 2009 and, though not a chess player herself, she had seen right away how the game helps children develop resilience and patience.
Then, after a lesson from FIDE Master Jonny Pein, arming the players with some tried and tested tournament strategies, the students were ready to play. Everyone participated well with some exceptional performances as well as good sportsmanship all round.
Congratulations to all players and thanks to the Boleyn Trust and New City Primary for helping to make this rewarding event happen. We look forward to seeing some inter-school chess rivalries grow in the coming years!
